An algal solution for a cleaner environment

Obelia

This is a bench for you to sit and relax. But it is not just a bench!

This is Obelia, and as its humble creators, we would vehemently argue that it is much more similar to a tree than a bench.

Like trees, Obelia recycles CO2 from the atmosphere. Its water tank is an algae reservoir which captures CO2, thus slowing down global warming and climate change. Obelia is committed to sustainability and has been built using 140 Kg of recycled plastic waste.

Once Obelia turns all green due to the growing algae, the algae will be harvested and converted into tasty and nutritious b-lite cookies which will add further flavour to your evenings.

This project of Zaara Biotech LLC, a biotech startup, was sponsored by Social Alpha. This “tree” was designed and fabricated at Fablab Kerala using recycled plastic waste sourced from GeoMater.
